The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Geneva - on the shore of the River Rhone - Switzerland - formerly The Hotel du Rhone! 02/11/2009 - One of Switzerland's best hotels and a city Landmark since the 1950's!

The hotel was until around the mid-2000's a member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World! - At the time many other Mandarin Oriental Hotels around the world had been members of the same affiliation! Today in 2009, there is not one Mandarin Oriental to be found under the roof of The Leading Hotels of the World! Many would say that this hotel-chain is now self-sufficient! Geneva in 2009 and the question of memberships in the hospitality business!

Gran Hotel La Florida

Gran Hotel La Florida

The best hotel I've ever stayed in bar none. It might have to do with the fact that it was a 5-star hotel and that we stayed as guests of the owner. Or it might be the awesome filet minon I had while there... Or the spectacular view down to Barcelona from our room.

Sunrise over Slovakia

Sunrise over Slovakia

Getting from Krakow to Budapest via Zakopane, Poprad and Kosice.... was exhausting.

After missing my train from Kosice, Slovakia to Budapest I decided to sleep in the train station because the next train left at 6am. It seemed silly to book a hostel/hotel room for only 9 hours.

Sleeping in a rundown/dodgy train station in Slovakia was a little unnerving. Airports just feel safer for some reason. I found a dark out of the way corner of the station. I bolted my bag to the bench, made sure I didn't have anything valuable in my pockets and made a pillow out of a stack of magazines.

I was so glad to finally get onto the train and to the hostel in Budapest. The sunrise was quite lovely and a bit surreal considering how sick and tired I was at the time.

Total trip cost me 9€ thanks to a free ticket from Poprad to Budapest that someone gave me at the Ginger Monkey Hostel.
